Animation and where it started
Let me introduce you to Wake Up, an animation I’ve been working on for a while now. Animation is probably one of my oldest hobbies. It started when I was about 8 years old with my brother introducing me to stop motion. We started making short films with our Lego. But after a few years, I started to shift my attention to a new type of animation, one that could be made only using software, 2D Animation. This was a challenge as I had to improve my
drawing skills as well as learn how to animate using drawing software (Krita).
A big motivation to this was a song a friend sent me (Run by Joji) that has a very strange ending but caught my attention, at around the same time I was finding a new passion for Cyberpunk dew to my brother living in Hong-Kong (The birthplace of Cyberpunk), a newly anticipated game (Cyberpunk 2077) and a whole new genre of music (French 79). All of this adding up on top of my newly accomplished skill (animating) made me come up with an idea for my first project called WakeUp. This was a big step but it was necessary for me to see how far I could push myself and this proved to be the perfect test.
About WakeUp
WakeUp will take place in a dystopian society. There is no context to this animation, I give full freedom to the viewers’ imagination, It’s whatever you want it to be, wherever you want it to be, whenever you want it to be. It’s the spectator’s role to give it a context.
You’ll be watching a man laying on a bed in a dark and messy room. A window gives a view to an outside street. Suddenly a computer monitor will switch on, dictating the man to wake up. He will then proceed to situp on his bed.

For now, it is all very simple, I will admit that this is testing a lot more of my drawing skills than my animating skills, But that was intentional. I wanted to do a project which looked professional, and without knowing much about 2D animating softwares, this was my best way of approaching this. But as I will go along developing my animation skills I’ll make sure to do the same with this mans story.
So this was a small introduction to my animation project, WakeUp. In the next post, we will look at how I drew this step by step.
