Before you start reading, check out the first post about the beginning of WakeUp, to understand how this project came about. If you already have, enjoy:
WakeUp is Composed of 3 official layers (2 Backgrounds, 1 Foreground)with each of them holding sublayers in them:
The Street (Street BG), Which is the view seen from the bedroom window.
The Room (Room BG), Which is the room you can see the character in.
The Man (Body), Which is the character and the bed he is laying on.
Each of these layers have a colour and a lighting layer in them. In addition, they have a hidden layer, which are their sketches, which is the first step of the animation, but isn't necessary once you have your official drawings.

Blue- Street BG
Green- Room BG
Red- Body
I started with the Street BG, as I wanted to start at the back and slowly make my way forward. I worked on the official drawing first, then decided to add the colours and finish with the lighting.
After a few suggestions, I realised the street was too ordinary and had to be modified, so I decided to give it a more Cyberpunk look.

I then moved on to the Room, this was the drawing with the most detail, It took a very long time to plan out what objects to add, where to add them, Then I’d have to add the colour, here I decided to integrate the lighting in the colour as the room would be dark giving it low saturation(coulours= black & white). I wanted to keep the room very dark to not distract/overwhelm the viewer and rather focus on the character.
Finally, I had arrived to the character, here I separated the man and the bed to each have a layer, this was to make it simpler when I start animating, as it was only the man that was going to be animated and not the bed. I first drew the bed and then added the body. I then added the colours to each of the layers and finished with the lighting.
The drawing was finally finished. To do this I used my custom palette, I obviously didn't constantly use the same brushes, but on average these were the ones I used most.

In the next post, we will cover all the progress I've made so far in animating these drawings. Don't hesitate to send me suggestions or anything else.
